PILLNITZ
The Pillnitz palace is beautifully situated on the bank of the river Elbe and surrounded by English and Chinese gardens. The palace itself is one of the finest examples of chinoiserie in Europe. Everything Chinese was popular at the court of August the Strong. In Pillnitz you will also hear of the tragic fate of one of its owners. August the Strong had given Pillnitz to the most important of all his mistresses, a lady called Countess Cosel.
