OLD TOWN

Return to the 1720's with our popular two hour walking tour. Discover how life in Baroque Dresden has evolved during the splendid reign of August the Strong, who was elector of Saxony and king of Poland.

We walk you back through time to the brilliant festivities and charming tournaments held in the Zwinger of Dresden. Strolling over the theatre square we come across the Semper Opera House, where Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner had conducted and where many operas of Richard Strauss had their first performances. From there we walk along the castle to the huge catholic court church, where the heart of August the Strong is buried. The Stallhof will bring the Renaissance court back to live and it is not far then to the Frauenkirche. This church was once thought to be the pinnacle of German church architecture. After its destruction in World War II the ruins had been kept as a war memorial. It has reopened in it's old splendour in 2005.

By the end of our two hour tour, you will appreciate the incredible history of this old town and you will have an orientation to the downtown core, for their further exploration at a later time.
