NEW MASTERS GALLERY

The New Masters Gallery is home to one of the most important collections of 19th century paintings in Germany. The collection, consisting of about 2,500 paintings, covers all developments of European art from the late eighteenth century to the present day. Above all, it illustrates major achievements of the Romantic Movement in Germany including numerous paintings of Caspar David Friedrich, Carl Gustav Carus and Ludwig Richter. In the collection one also gets a synopsis of major works of the German Impressionists such as Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt and Max Liebermann. Another emphasis is on contemporary painting with a special focus on the work of the Dresden-born painter Gerhard Richter.
